This is my first Vizio TV, and I have to say that I am impressed by the quality of the picture and the features for a set selling for this price.

I have to start off by saying that I did have to have the initial set I was sent replaced due to dead pixels. Multiple dead pixels in fact. One or two dark pixels surrounded by clusters of grey pixels that were very noticeable, especially during particularly bright images. Somewhere between 30 to 40 of them. If you're like me, one or two are barely acceptable, so this many were absolutely not. That said, as mentioned, I was impressed with the price and features of the set, and with the exception of the pixel problem, was quite impressed with the image quality, so I decided to return the item for a replacement and see if this was going to be a common problem, or if I just got a lemon. The replacement set arrived and looked fantastic, so it was clearly a one off, but I would still examine your set carefully if you pick one of these up to make sure you don't get stuck with a similar problem.

As for the return and replacement, UPS arrived at my doorstep in two days with a call-tag to pick up the first set, and later that same day, my replacement set arrived. Kudos once again to Amazon for their stellar, speedy service.

My review as it follows will be based on the replacement set I received.

Firstly, the overall look and design of this TV is very sleek and sexy with a minimal bezel. The set itself has a very thin profile, and weighs a very slight 17 lbs. The stand included with the set is attached via three included screws, and the entire process from unboxing to connecting all my components took all of five minutes with an additional five for setting up the features and wifi.

This TV would be a solid value if there were no LN5700:

(1) IPS screen, which provides great color saturation and viewing angles (but sacrifices some black level).

(2) Direct-lit screen, which eliminates backlight bleeds that are a common problem for edge-lit TVs.

But given that the LN5700 is only 4-5% more expensive, the 5400 is a poor value. I returned my 50LN5400 and bought a 55LN5700, and could not be happier:

(1) LN5700 has no uneven backlighting. LN5400 has slightly uneven backlights. On an all-white screen, you can see dark patches.

(2) LN5700 has a much faster processor; LG says the CPU is 120% faster and the GPU is 300% faster. 5400 has an old processor from 2011-2012. Picture quality seems better on 5700. My TV is hooked up to my HTPC. 5400 had difficulties rendering the sharpness of texts. Texts either looked too edgy or too blurry. But they look fantastic on 5700. 5400 has a very different menu. I think it must have an old operating system, because the new OS probably cannot run on an old processor.

(3) LN5700 has wifi and can update firmware, LN5400 cannot. In some cases, updated firmware brings massive performance increases. I had a Panasonic DT50 before. The colors were off a lot, but after a firmware update the colors looked great.

I suspect that 5400 is a 2012/2011 model rebadged as a 2013 model. Given the tiny price difference between 5400 and 5700, there is absolutely no reason to buy a 5400, but I highly, highly recommend 5700.

LG TV 42LB5800 42 Inch Review
LG Electronics 42LB5800 42-Inch 1080p 60Hz Smart LED TV Description review :

The LB5800 is a well-featured, high-performing Full HD 1080p TV that combines bright, crisp LED backlighting with streaming functionality to deliver top notch pciture quality with endless content entertainment options.

DISCLAIMER: Internet connection and certain subscriptions required, sold separately.

I started out just looking for a tv for my home office. Nothing special, just wanted it to have some basic smart features. I started out a VIZIO 32" E320I-A0 and was far from satisfied. Outside of the quality reminding me of some sort of cheap knock off electronic, the interface was slow and horrible. Luckily I came to my senses and decided to spend a little more for this model. The LB5800 is a solid smart LED TV. It looks great, A/V performance is excellent, and feels like it was worth the money. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a under 40in TV.

LG Electronics 42LN5300 42 Inch LED TV Reviews :

I have had this TV for a few weeks now. I was worried about buying a 60hz TV but no trouble what so ever. I have watched NASCAR, Baseball, Football and all other types of programing. I see no motion blurring at all on this TV. The picture is just amazing. Crisp, clear and the color is really good. Thats without any adjustments. I'm using the standard picture setting and have the energy saver set on low. Have not purchased a sound bar yet. Adjusted some of my sound settings and is a little better. Some channels have really good sound and some don't. DVD's have good sound. And speaking of DVD the picture quality looks as good if not better than Directv's 720p and 1080i HD. The DVD picture quality is so good I have not even considered a Blu Ray player. I have my DVD player hooked up through the component input. The Blue Green and Red. Really happy with this purchase.

Customer Reviews

The RTS735E is an appropriately-priced, no-frills, three-input, middle-of-the-road, better-than-the-TV sound bar. The sound quality is good but not great, the treble and bass settings are basic and are neither high or deep. The bar can be louder than the TV, but not by much. Dynamic range is similar to a table radio, it neither tweets or booms, it doesn't distort or clip the audio, stereo separation is appropriate for 3 inch by 2 inch speakers 30 inches apart and 1.5 inch high(er) range speakers about 24 inches apart and air ports about 20 inches apart. As is, the sound is neither dull or crisp. If you feed it from an audio processor, it will sound much better. If you want sound that is better than the TV, this bar will do it. It's a sound bar.

The build quality is very good, it's made of clean, unobtrusive, sturdy black plastic. The four buttons (left to right: standby/on, source, - volume, and volume +) are placed along the top center of the unit with four blue indicator LEDs in the center of the top face. The four LEDs are (left to right), standby, and (inferred from the captioning graphic) low, middle, and high (for audio parameter setting), or the source (Aux1, Aux2, Line-In). The volume, bass, and treble seem to have 16 levels. When setting the volume, bass, and treble, the low-middle-high LEDs indicate the setting, blinking predictably when the three LEDs indicate the setting among the the 16 levels. When not adjusting the audio parameter settings and not muted, the LEDs steadily indicate the source. When muted, all three LEDs blink one second on, one second off.

The sound bar has options for mounting (and additional screws are provided for wall mounting and already has back- and bottom-of-unit mounting facilities).

Customer Reviews

I am a Vine reviewer, and often receive products before their release to the public. This Bose Solo TV Sound System is one of these products.

I received this sound system with no knowledge of what it really is. No expectations, except that it a Bose product, so I had an expectation that it'd be quality.

Upon receipt, the unit did not work properly. I contacted Bose directly and they were AMAZING. They immediately sent me out a new one, and explained that the product is still in beta-testing. (They were surprised that I received the product so early before its release.) I sent back the old one, and they told me that it had old software on it (pre-release). No worries on it being in the official-product. The second one had the same problem (since they sent out the second before they got the first back, they didn't realize that the stock was of old software). No problem--Bose sent out another. The rep that I worked with (they assign you one person to talk to--a real, live person who emails you back immediately if you have a question) was GREAT. He checked on me to be sure it was working properly, and answered all questions I had promptly.

So, for customer service, Bose ROCKS! I would have no problem doing business with them in the future, knowing that they care this much about making things right.

(This is as opposed to a review I did for LG, where they couldn't care less when their product had failures--they were going to charge me to even check it out...even when I told them that I am a Vine reviewer and their customer service would be on my review...some companies couldn't care less

Customer Reviews

If you'd asked me a couple years ago which 5.1 sound system to buy, my answer would have been simple: "none."

They were a big expensive pain. It seemed like my friends who had these systems would either have them only half set up (say, ditching the surround speakers) or fully set up but not used (because the input selection or the remote was too much of a pain). My previous roommate had a 5.1 "surround" system - with all five speakers under the TV. We rarely used it because we had to change 3 settings in 3 different places to make it work.

Let's review the misery of yesterday's 5.1 systems, shall we?

1) You needed to place and wire six speakers: left, center, right, left surround, right surround, plus a bass module. That's a lot of wires, speaker stands, and connections.
2) To connect the left and right surround speakers, you needed to run wires across your seating area. That's pretty ugly unless you go through the effort to make conduits or buy a special rug.
3) You needed to purchase a separate receiver to power those speakers - and connect it too.
4) You paid for all that - an absolute minimum of $400, with nicer gear easily double that.
5) You needed to manage additional remotes and settings. Good luck if you ever asked a friend to change the volume.

Well, it's almost as though Vizio started with this list, and then eliminated these problems one by one when making this 5.1 soundbar. The soundbar itself combines Left, Center and Right channels into one thin module that will fit in front of your TV, assuming you use a TV stand with at least two inches of space there. There are no speaker stands or speaker wires, and no separate receiver - the amplifier is built in!
